Privacy policy

The short version: we are not a data business. We collect as little as possible and we do not sell anything, including your information.

What we collect

If you email us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply. That is the extent of it. This website does not run advertising and does not sell products, so there is no checkout, no account, and no payment data.

Analytics and cookies

We use StatCounter to count page visits and see which pages people find useful. It sets a cookie in your browser and processes your IP address to do that. We do not sell that data and we do not build a marketing profile from it. StatCounter is the only third party involved. Its cookie and the consent value described below are the only things this site stores in your browser.

What happens depends on where you are, which we work out from the country your connection reports to our host:

  • European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland: we ask first. Nothing loads and no analytics cookie is set until you choose Accept. If you choose Reject, nothing loads at all.
  • United States and everywhere else: analytics runs when the page loads, and you can opt out whenever you like. Opting out stops it and is remembered.
  • If we cannot tell where you are: we treat you as being in the first group and ask before loading anything.

To remember your choice we store one small value in your browser, either granted or denied. That value is what stops us asking on every page, so it is set regardless of what you choose. It holds no personal information. A denial is kept until you clear it; an acceptance is re-checked after 180 days.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other sites we have found helpful, such as gear guides and the clubs in our directory. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we do not control how they handle data.
